 DATACENTRE RELOCATION

As part of our enhanced services we are able to offer consolidation management. We can provide management from start to finish. Our principal consultant has managed consolidations and relocations for some of the largest corporations in the world. Clients include Johnson and Johnson outsourcing division, Commonwealth Banks Insurance division, CommInsure, BHP Biliton, Hewlett Packard managed services and ANZ Bank.

The major projects we are currently engaged in are:

Hewlett Packard’s global data centre consolidation program which involves consolidating five of their Melbourne data centres into one for their most important global customers;

Relocating a major component of ANZ's infrastructure.  Due to the size of the infrastructure, even with several teams, this will take six months to complete.

The following are descriptions of some of the services we can offer to make your consolidation efforts easy, efficient and well managed.  Processes that have been evolved and tested under the most difficult political and technical environments, ranging from global to regional to local consolidation experience. Some of the major activities that you will need to consider when embarking on a consolidation program are;

The need for scoping - Do you need to know exactly what you are dealing with, how big the job really is. Scoping is part of our everyday business and not only at a high level; we can also manage low level discovery activities.

The need for costing - Once the program is scoped, how do you cost this program?  How do you ensure you cover the detail and arrive at holistic cost estimations? We can run through a costing exercise and deliver scenarios as required

The need for a business case - Everyone knows it will save money consolidating operations, but "everybody knows" is not good enough for corporate governance. The numbers need to stack up and we can assist in developing the required business case and presentations, in either your company standard or our own.

The need for program/project management office function - as part of our service we can supply program office functions that enable the program to be managed. These include change, risk management, issue management, work breakdown structures, project management plans, project briefs, financial, status and steering committee reporting. In fact all the processes you need to manage any program or project.

The need to select and manage vendors - How do you know who is the best vendor for the job, and once you commit to a vendor how will you manage their performance? Sometimes it seems once you sign on the bottom line they disappear and you have to chase them. Sometimes the resources they assign to the program just don't have the required experience. Leave it to us, we manage single or multiple vendors and report status and performance back to you with agreed information and at an agreed frequency.

The need to negotiate vendor contracts - at the same time we can do the hard negotiations with the selected or incumbent vendors, we work with you to ensure we negotiate within an agreed framework and of course, the final agreement is with you.

The need to manage executive level steering committee - Project owners and sponsors? We have experience managing committees from board level to low level management. From local to remote committee management. We can select the appropriate steering committee members for the task at hand; engage their expertise and direction as required. To enhance the decision making process we present clear and unambiguous choice comparisons, tactical and strategic.

The need to manage with business owners - What about the business owners? Who will be able to engage and manage them? These are the major stakeholders. We provide stakeholder identification and calculated, scheduled and targeted communications.

The need to manage business application teams - How will the application teams be managed, who will negotiate and coordinate their activities. We can talk Techo, we can talk application management and UAT. We can negotiate reasonable outcomes regarding sign off criteria for business applications.

The need to manage infrastructure team activities - What teams will we require to engage form operations, break/Fix, Change, media management, could be a number of teams, especially if the infrastructure is integrated into many systems. We deal with these situations everyday, so for us it is just another day in the office.
